The Story of Eduface
February 2023
Menno and Jeroen began working on Eduface in February 2023. At the time, Eduface started as a digital marketplace for study books.
This platform already included several AI features. Leiden University, together with Rabobank, joined the initiative and supported the development of a better AI model with €70,000 in funding.
June 2023
Eduface launched its first pilot in collaboration with Boom Publishers and was invited to participate in several startup competitions across Europe.
The product was tested by lecturers from Leiden University of Applied Sciences, MBO Rijnland, and Leiden University.
October 2023
As the team grew, Eduface opened offices at the university incubator of Leiden University and within the campus of Radboud University.
February 2024
Eduface’s first international trip became a reality: the entire team traveled to Malta to initiate a collaboration with the University of Malta.
Following this successful excursion, the Eduface model was further developed to support assignments written in English.
June 2024
At this point, Eduface was being tested by teachers at 12 different educational institutions. The model continued to improve and more importantly, became significantly smaller. A smaller model consumes less energy, reduces hallucinations, and is easier to host locally within the institution.
Eduface is now actively working on minimizing the model’s size benefiting the climate, the user, and institutional hosting alike.
October 2024
With new partners such as Startup Fonds Gelderland and Imec.istart, Eduface entered a new phase of development.
Work began on integrations with learning platforms such as Brightspace, Canvas, Moodle, Microsoft Teams, and Blackboard.
Next steps...
At the moment, Eduface can only give feedback on written assignments. In the future, we also want to support oral examinations.
