How we created the AI model

1. Collecting educational data from vocational, applied sciences, and universities

For the initial model training, we gathered student writing assignments from institutions across all levels of education.

2. Analyzing educational data and integrating instructional expertise

Once the model could identify key elements in student writing, we trained it to generate feedback grounded in instructional research and instructional best practices for giving feedback.

3. Subject-specific knowledge through Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)

Using a RAG system, the model draws on domain-specific knowledge for each discipline. This allows it to generate feedback tailored to fields like economics, Dutch language, computer science, healthcare, and law.

4. Level-specific feedback

One of the final steps was incorporating instructional principles specific to each educational level. As a result, feedback for vocational students differs significantly from that for university students.

5. AI and teacher working together

The AI assistant generates assignment-specific feedback, but the teacher always remains in control. They can adjust and finalize the feedback, ensuring a collaborative process between human expertise and AI support.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Eduface?

Eduface is an AI feedback and grading assistant built for teachers. It highlights parts of student work, adds clear feedback, and gives grades per rubric point (great, good, satisfactory, unsatisfactory) with an explanation. This way, you instantly see how a student is developing in each area.

Which subjects does Eduface work with?

Eduface is trained on real educational data. It knows how good feedback should look and is specialized in six areas: Law, Economics, Social Sciences, STEM fields, Humanities and Health Sciences.

Can I try Eduface for free

Yes! You can create a free account and use Eduface without limits. No 30-day trial or hidden costs. Invite your colleagues too.

How does Eduface reduce the workload of feedback and grading

Our AI feedback tool provides formative feedback and grading on student writing assignments. You simply upload the paper along with the grading scheme, and even before opening the document, the comments and grades are already in place. On average, this saves teachers 10 hours per grading round.

Can Eduface be integrated into my institution’s LMS?

Yes. Eduface already has integrations ready with Canvas, Moodle, Microsoft Teams, Brightspace, and Blackboard. Once your institution starts a formal partnership with us, we’ll activate the integration.

What happens to the assignments and grading scheme I upload?

We only use your documents to generate feedback in that moment. If you delete an assignment, it’s immediately removed from our system too. Your data stays safe and private.

How does Eduface meet GDPR and AI Act requirements?

We never train on your assignments. Files are processed securely and deleted as soon as you decide. Our model is transparent and explainable, so you can always see how a grade is generated.
